Thursday (01-02-20) - Rainy Day Route

Today had a big impact on my life because of the conditions I saw and the ways that many of the people responded. The day was rainy and once you got wet it became hard to stay warm even with many layers on. We started off by going through some woods. Everywhere you looked there was trash. It was unbelievable that there could even be life under all of it. We met a women who said there was a pregnant women inside there hut. This hut was compiled of tarps and poles but could barely stand. It was unbelievable. They were so grateful for the food, prayer, and supplies we gave them. However on our way out one of the men was telling me that the big hut right next to those women used to consist of 21 people. Two of which were pregnant. This shocked me. He went on to say they found help and got out of there. I can’t believe anyone coming out of anything that bad. However God has a plan for each and everyone of us. Psalm 40:1-3 says, “He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him. Truth: God hears your cries of pain.” I hope that those people can see that it was not them that got themselves out of there even though it takes effort, but it was by the Lord that they truly came out of that filthy place.

Today was a day to be grateful. We started the morning having spersonal devotions after breakfast. Then lunches were prepared and we set out for routes. It was raining the whole time that we were out there. It really made me think about how much I am blessed and the group discussed it in our devotions. We talked about how we all were excited to be able to head back, shower, and dry off. It was a relatively short time of discomfort. The same wasn't true of the men and women we met today. They were stuck out in the rain and mud, possibly staying that way for days . I couldn't help but praise God that he has always given me shelter and comfort. Once we got back and showered we has some fun playing a card came. Bible Time came with the women and kids and the message about temptations was so powerful. Dinner was a delicious meal and a great time of fellowship with the women and kids. We made a quick run to Walmart for supplies and Starbucks for coffee. During group devotions we talked about the impact of kindness and love both visible and invisible. The day may have been dreary outside but we pray and hope that we brightened it for the people we served and showed God's love.

Day 2 of making lunches!  Making 175 for our route today!

Each day our lunch is whatever we serve on route.

Hard to see some of the conditions people live in

Love the prayer time we can have with people we meet

Heading back into the woods near a trailer park.  We were surprised to find out people apparently lived back here.  The amount of garbage was unreal.

One of two make shift shelters made out of tarps

The other makeshift shelter

Prayer in the woods for those that lived there

Back to the vehicles...

This dog followed us around the whole time we were in the trailer park.  7 Bridges gives the dog (and her two sisters) food each time they stop by.  It's clear this dog is underfed.

Making our way through the trailer park

The rain can't hold back the smiles

Group shot before handing out socks, gloves, blankets and lunches

Back at 7 Bridges for supper.  Bryden and Annie were able to help serve everyone tonight
